From the Low Gillerthwaite Field Guide to the fells like Orrest Head, from Lake Windermere to Cumbria’s gorgeous coast, there is plenty to see in the Lake District. While exploring the area, Cambridge House can be the perfect place to rest during your travels. We offer a charming, welcoming respite in our guest house that’s perfectly situated for any would-be Lake District explorers.
Your Lake District guest house
Cambridge House was originally built in 1873 as a Gentleman’s residence, having since been converted and is now owned by Debbie & Dave Lupton. Built in the Lakeland style, it has an idyllic and traditional appeal that can really help you get into the spirit of your surroundings with double, twin, and family rooms each offering comfortable beds to give you the perfect place to return after a day of outdoor adventures.
All our rooms are en-suite, and have books, games, complimentary tea & coffee, maps you can take freely and a flat screen TV/CD player, so you’re well provided for.
The perfect place to explore the District from
Our Lake District guest house is nestled in the centre of Windermere, a lively, welcoming town that sees its fair share of travellers. Cambridge House is only a few minutes away from the shops, restaurants & bars of the town and 15-20 minutes away from Lake Windermere. We recommend the walk as it offers gorgeous views of the countryside, just as we recommend visiting the nearby Orrest Head and School Knot. These two fells give you an elevated view over the lake itself, as well as the surrounding countryside that’s well worth the effort.
It’s always a good morning at Cambridge House
There are few things better to get you ready for a day of sightseeing and local activities like a home-cooked breakfast (extra charges apply). Our sunny dining room is open to all guests, even if you simply need a space to read, work, or relax with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, microwave available for guests use. Those with breakfast on their mind will find that we use fresh, local ingredients, supporting local farmers through Plumgarths butchers, Dobson’s Fruit & Veg, and Free Range eggs, with vegetarian and vegan options available on the menu as well.
Setting out with a little help
For those who want a little help in seeing the best sights that the Lake District has to offer, we’re happy to provide maps and to provide directions as best as possible. If you don’t know where to go, we are outdoor enthusiasts, so we always have ideas to share, as well. For those looking to spend a day in the village, we can let you know what events are on, too. Of course, if you prefer to find your own way and make your own adventure, you are more than welcome to!
